September 15, 2012

The "Busy Bees" had a lot of fun celebrating Grandparent's Day with their grandparents/special friends.  The children really enjoyed singing songs for their grandparents.  After singing we had B. Bass' grandpa read our "Grandpa" book and he did an awesome job.  He even wiggled his ears for the children.  They loved it!  Then, J. Robertson's grandmother read our "Grandma" book.  She did a super job as well.  After story time, the children sang one more song before heading to the gym to get their picture made with their grandparent/special friend.  After pictures were taken the children and grandparents shopped at the Scholastic Book fair.  The "hot" item again this year was the finger pointer.  Who would have thought?

I will be completing the beginning of the year assessments this week, and I am very impressed how smart your children are.  They are doing awesome work.

We have began our phonics lessons learning the sounds of  M, S, A, and T.  We will begin blending and reading three letter words in word families using these letters.  It is so exciting when the children start to read.  We have also learned two sight words, I and like.

In math we are learning to count with one to one correspondence and record our data.

Monday,  9/17,  we will be learning about Constitution Day.

Tuesday,  9/18,  is picture day, don't forget.

We will have our first field trip on Friday, October 5th to the pumpkin patch.  We would love to have you join us if you can come.

The children are making great progress learning the rules and procedures and they are transitioning into kindergarten very nicely.  I am very proud of them.

Thank you for sharing your children with me.  They are a joy!

Week Four

This is going to be a fun week for your children.  Kindergarten will celebrate Grandparent's Day on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.  If your child does not have a grandparent that can attend, a parent, other family member or adult friend is welcomed to come with your child.  We will do a few activities in the classroom with the grandparents, and then the grandparents will go with their grandchild to the book fair and afterwards get their picture made together.

I am still working on the beginning of the year assessments.  My class is doing an awesome job.  I will go over the results of the assessment at our first Parent Teacher Conference on October 22.  I can't wait to meet with each of you to discuss your child.  This is always an exciting time.

I love the cooler weather and we are planning our first field trip to the Pumpkin Patch.  When I get the date and time I will let you know.  If you can go with us we would love for you to come.

I am really enjoying getting to know your children.  Thank you for sharing them with me.

I hope everyone had a restful Labor Day Weekend!  Can you believe we are already starting our third week of school?   We have been busy bees learning all of the rules and procedures for the classroom, school, and our pull-outs such as art, music and P.E.

I have began the beginning of the year assessments which will take me a couple of more weeks to complete.  When I finish them I will have a very good understanding of where each of my students are academically.  This will help me to plan instruction on their individual levels.

This is my first year to have a blog so I will try to update it regularly with helpful information as well as pictures.  This is going to be a very fun year in kindergarten and I am looking forward to teaching your children.

Second Monday

Well, it is the second Monday of Kindergarten in Mrs. Shelton's classroom.  I can't believe how much my students have learned in one short week.  I will try to use this blog to keep you up-to-date on fun and important things happening in our room!  This is my first attempt at creating a blog so please be patient with me.
